The Role of Policing in Society Part I: How Big Government Spawns Hatred for the Police

I reject the narratives circulating in the media.  I reserve the right to think independently and dissent from what the nation is being intimidated into “believing.”  This is still a Right of free people.  The argument all cops are bad is absurd.  The argument that police are systemically racist is patently false…a fact we should all be proud to announce vice succumbing to political intimidation and pandering.  On the other side of the narrative, it is false to declare that all cops are good and beyond reproach.  Like all institutions, there are always some wrongdoers.  However, when we find these miscreants wearing blue, we should all agree to weed them out instead of insulating them from accountability, be it by a union or immunity.  Also false are the polarized arguments insisting at one extreme, we abolish the police, or at the other extreme, cops must be protected from all criticism.  Neither narrative is beneficial and neither serves to address the real problems underlying the growing animosity and distrust between the public and the police.  This is not accidental.  This is a classic false choice, a red herring, set up by subversive elites to effectively trick the public into division.  To be clear, the police writ large are still the good guys and appreciated by vastly more people than the mainstream media portrays through a campaign of relentless disinformation.  So, rather than rehashing ridiculous narratives, I hope I can inject some balance and reason back into this ideological divide, which has been engineered to rip apart the fabric of this great nation.  In Part I of my articles on policing in the United States, I address the root causes of conflict between the police and the public, which are by definition systemic, and how to reverse it at a macro level.

To scope the argument, let me ask this question.  Is there a difference between law enforcement and the police?  I asked many police officers this question and the consensus answer, albeit nuanced, was they were the same.  Inherent in this consensus the two terms are synonymous is what I believe to be one of the greatest problems with “law enforcement.”  There is a huge difference between protecting citizens as citizens and enforcing any edict an insane bureaucrat may concoct as a paramilitary arm of the regime.  This divide can be traced directly back to the differing Franco-Continental and British views of policing pre-dating the 1700s.  The British ideas, captured in Sir Robert Peel’s Nine “Peelian Principles,” represent policing by the consent of the people.  The Franco-Continental view is one of authoritarian absolutism through law enforcement.  One is the champion of the people and respected and the other becomes the enemy of the people and detested.  Not surprisingly, governments left unchecked often create a Franco-Continental model of law enforcement instead of the citizen based British model of policing.  Being that the law enforcement model has been embraced by big government socialists around the world to force policies without the consent of citizens, I do not find it at all coincidental that this glaring distinction between policing and law enforcement has been eradicated in modern vernacular and discussion.  Equally true is that as our nation moves from policing by consent to policing by force, there will be growing resistance.  As such, when asked how to “fix” our police departments, my answer is simple.  It is not to outright defund the police or get rid of cops.  It is to remove law enforcement from the corrupting control of politicians and make the police directly answerable to the public, which they directly serve.  With this comes training, re-education, and a heavy scoping of the role police serve in society and how they perform their duties.

In a perfect world, the public would elect competent officials that execute the duties of their office with the utmost integrity and the best interests of the public in mind.  The public would be well represented by their officials.  The elected official would be directly accountable to the citizens not just in theory, but in practice.  They would rigorously adhere to the legal precedents codified in the Constitution and jealously guard the Rights of the people enshrined in the Bill of Rights.  These representatives would craft legislation that improves the lives of the citizens and only when necessary, would they use the police to enforce these just laws in the defense of life, liberty, and property with the citizens’ consent.

Then there is the real world where corrupt and utterly incompetent bureaucrats and politicians spend lifetimes enriching themselves and their close friends at the taxpayers’ expense.  These career politicians have an insatiable appetite for more power, which means bigger government.  How does government get bigger?  It creates more government organizations to churn out an endless supply of new laws and regulations that give the politicians more power, wealth, and protection.  To fund these all-consuming fiefdoms, the political elite need an ever increasing amount of money to be extorted from the public in a thousand different ways ranging from traffic cameras, highway tolls, and speed traps, to the 78,000 pages of tax codes and counting.  The bigger their government fiefdom becomes, the more inefficient it becomes.  The more inefficient it becomes the greater need for even more laws to raise even more revenue.  This leviathan left unchecked will create so many laws, regulations, codes, taxes, ordnances, and rules, life for the ordinary citizen becomes oppressive and the citizen soon sees the government as the enemy.

This growth of government directly impacts how police are seen by the public they serve.  Bigger and bigger government requires the need for more and more enforcement capacity.  This is an inherent problem that defines the violence and tyranny of big government, which soon becomes synonymous with Socialism.  To sustain the government, police are placed on the front lines of revenue generation, which immediately makes them the object of scorn for the financially extorted public.  Yes, it is true that it is the “elected” politicians of the “people” that created these taxes, but the fact is lost on the individual who only sees the officer in blue writing the ticket.  Some examples of how law enforcement become the face of revenue collection include enforcing ridiculous taxes on cigarettes, issuing frivolous traffic tickets, and enforcing tolls on highways paid for a thousand times over by taxpayers.  We may dress this up better, but a man with a gun enforcing the extraction of a $40 toll on Interstate 66 from the father trying to get to work is little different in practice to the ordinary citizen than the highwayman of old that held up travelers at gun point and robbed them face-to-face.  In addition to revenue collection, law enforcement is tasked with all manner of intrusive actions into people’s lives.  The list of egregious abuses grows by the day and includes everything from civil asset forfeiture better known as state sponsored theft to raiding homes in the middle of the night killing innocent citizens through gross negligence.  Whether arresting a six-year-old for a playground scuffle or unconstitutionally disarming innocent citizens without due process, the root of these outrages grows from too much government.  This insatiable growth of government ultimately pits the organs of state sanctioned force against the people it was designed originally to serve.  It is at this juncture when our men and women in blue must ask who they serve and whether they are representing law enforcement and the bureaucrats or police and the people.

Our nation is at cross-roads.  Do we want police, or do we want law enforcement?  My question to our officers in blue is will you force the corrupt politicians with their overzealous rules to capitulate or will you continue to protect and empower them?  Will you serve by the consent of the people or the decree of the bureaucrats that despise the police, yet use law enforcement for their benefit?  You, the men and women in blue, have the power to be the champions of the people by denying the political elite the ability to force their oppressive ideologies on the public.  You are their enforcement capability.  Without your consent, their edicts are hollow.  Who do you serve?  Are you going to stand in formation all night long getting pelted with bricks and bottles of urine as your neighborhoods burn because some corrupt councilman dictated a stand-down order?  Are the only arrests you make going to be the father that pulled a gun to protect his family as the mob attacked him, burned his business, and trashed his car?  If so, in spite of the disinformation and propaganda in the mainstream media, which does not represent the actual attitudes and values of the majority in the nation that want to support the police, you have not only have lost the people, but have become the willing dupes of an elite that despises you.  Instead of selectively enforcing the law based on intimidation and pressure from radical politicians, I challenge all officers across this nation to push back, use discretion, and exercise their right to dissent by not engaging in inequitably practices that alienate the public.  Equally important, if communities genuinely want change in our policing practices…and I do, I challenge the citizens to replace career politicians, roll back the insane number of intrusive and unnecessary rules, and remove the control of the police departments from these governing bodies.  Our nation desperately needs checks and balances and for all too long, the big city police departments have been hamstrung by corrupt officials unfit to wear a badge.  Make the departments and their budgets independent.  Make the police chiefs elected officials.  Make the governments stop using the police to enforce revenue collection and all other non-criminal matters.  As Sir Robert Peel advocated, make the police the citizens and the citizens the police.

Sir Robert Peel’s Nine Principles:

  1. To prevent crime and disorder, as an alternative to their repression by military force and severity of legal punishment.
  2. To recognise always that the power of the police to fulfill their functions and duties is dependent on public approval of their existence, actions and behaviour, and on their ability to secure and maintain public respect.
  3. To recognise always that to secure and maintain the respect and approval of the public means also the securing of the willing co-operation of the public in the task of securing observance of laws.
  4. To recognise always that the extent to which the co-operation of the public can be secured diminishes proportionately the necessity of the use of physical force and compulsion for achieving police objectives.
  5. To seek and preserve public favour, not by pandering to public opinion, but by constantly demonstrating absolutely impartial service to law, in complete independence of policy, and without regard to the justice or injustice of the substance of individual laws, by ready offering of individual service and friendship to all members of the public without regard to their wealth or social standing, by ready exercise of courtesy and friendly good humour, and by ready offering of individual sacrifice in protecting and preserving life.
  6. To use physical force only when the exercise of persuasion, advice and warning is found to be insufficient to obtain public co-operation to an extent necessary to secure observance of law or to restore order, and to use only the minimum degree of physical force which is necessary on any particular occasion for achieving a police objective.
  7. To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.
  8. To recognise always the need for strict adherence to police-executive functions, and to refrain from even seeming to usurp the powers of the judiciary of avenging individuals or the State, and of authoritatively judging guilt and punishing the guilty.
  9. To recognise always that the test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, and not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with them.

Beyond Charlottesville: The choice between civil war and national salvation

I have pondered the staged, revolutionary events in Charlottesville all week.  How to properly address the depth of dangers facing America has literally kept me up at night.  I could analyze the events and various belligerents.  I could point fingers and place blame on the various factions.  I could talk about how it was an orchestrated setup designed to burn Charlottesville to the ground as a sacrifice to create racial division.  I could even discuss a strategy to resist the war being waged against America.  However, I won’t.  Not yet at least.  Problems are best settled with a cool head.  Taking a week to assimilate the situation is critical to avoid costly strategic mistakes.  Right now, our nation needs to collectively take a step back and focus on what is really at stake; the United States of America.  Please stay with me and read on.

With respect to the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, the most important issue right now is to not allow yourself and others to be sucked into the trap our enemies have set for America.  We must not be distracted and remain laser focused on the real enemies of our nation.  The enemies of “all” Americans are desperate to polarize and divide our nation through class warfare.  They are few, but powerful.  Just like the leaders of earlier revolutions, they are the strategists and the financiers.  However, alone, they are incapable of implementing their plan to destroy and subjugate US.  To overcome their weaknesses, they leverage engineered issues to manipulate the masses to action.  They control minds and opinions through their monopoly of mass media and governments.  They control world events through finance and wars.  They internally divide.  They polarize.  They deceive.  Our enemies are not the idiots wearing black masks in the street throwing feces at each other like zoo monkeys.  These zombie stooges of the Left are simply expendable pawns that serve to distract America from what is killing it.  Through violence and intimidation, these mobs for hire are sent from city to city to create the illusion of an enemy far more pervasive than their true numbers remotely approach.  Nonetheless, by their very nature, these dupes are a terrorist arm of the Left, but they do not represent the critical head of this hydra.  Our enemy is the poisonous, nationcidal Leftist ideology and the globalists financing its implementation.

Make no mistake; the events in Charlottesville were engineered with the sole purpose of igniting racial tensions that they have been dutifully stoked year after year by Leftist elites.  These fault lines were created through a steady diet of identity politics that have nursed a victim mentality amongst the growing list of “aggrieved” classes.  Through control of the public schools and universities, the Left has indoctrinated an entire generation in their evil ideology to bolster their numbers to staff their zombie army.  These indoctrinated minions actually believe that by tearing down the US, they can create a utopian world where the perceived societal ills such as sexism, racism, and homophobia cannot exist.  To these mentally ill fools that have been taught to feel and not think, the “ists” of the world are the single greatest problem facing humanity.  Remarkably, exactly 100 years after the Bolsheviks seized power in Russia through a bloody revolution, the seeds they planted have finally born their poisonous fruit.  Just like in Czarist Russia a century ago, the Leftists are now ready to blow the fault lines they have diligently chiseled into the fabric of America into gaping chasms that cannot be bridged.

Let me be clear, the civil war the Left so overtly desires will be devastating for everyone.  Only a mad man or sociopath could desire such an outcome.  There will be no utopia.  There will be no great liberation of the aggrieved classes.  Life will not improve.  The world will not be better.  The aggrieved classes will learn what true aggression, fear, and oppression feel like and will suffer greatly.  Blacks in particular will shoulder the worst of any race war, which they cannot win.  America will not be returned to some mythical communist paradise of equality, but a totalitarian cesspool of poverty, oppression, and darkness.  The torches of freedom, liberty, opportunity, prosperity, and equal rights under the law will be extinguished.

This dark future is our destiny should we as a nation collectively choose to remain ignorant of the evils attacking our nation.  We must study and understand the mortal enemies of freedom on the Left such as Marx and Alinsky.  If we continue to allow ourselves to be distracted by petty differences, baited into class warfare and identity politics, and deceived by the Left, our nation cannot stand.  Our enemies know this and are determined to place maximum pressure on the societal fault lines they have engineered.  This will continue to get worse.  Our enemies not only desire, but require us to hate and fight each other to achieve their desired goal of toppling the US.  The worst fear of the Left is that Americans wake up, see their evil ideology, and take down the thought leaders and financiers of the Left, which have engineered this war.  I have no illusions about the nature of man.  It is far easier to give into primal emotions of hate, jealousy, greed, anger, and vengeance than it is to forgive, love, and take personal responsibility.  As individuals, to surmount these emotions, it will require resolute discipline and an incredible moral and ethical constitution that I believe is predicated in religion.  As a nation, it will require true leaders of the first order, not seen since our nation’s darkest hours, to rise up and offer a better vision, dismantle the intellectual dishonesty of the Left, and guide our nation back to health.

In closing, I ask each and every one of you to take time out of your day to stop and deeply reflect on the juncture we have come to as a nation.  Refocus on what is important.  Remove yourself from biases and preconceived notions.  Reevaluate the narratives of those claiming to be your leaders.  Reeducate those around you.  Remind yourself what you want your future to look like.  Then, and only then, reengage.  Come forward ready to meet the threats we face by uniting not dividing our nation.  It can be done.

Wake Up America: A “State of Emergency” in Ferguson is a nice way to say “Martial Law” and the police chief wants to disarm you!

The news this week again highlighted Ferguson, Missouri as new riots and protests broke loose. In response, a “state of emergency” was declared. People need to wake up and realize what is really going on is martial law is now being routinely declared. Disturbingly, people are being conditioned to accept imposition of martial law as a legitimate response to everything from a snowstorm to a lawful protest. Just like martial law, these states of emergency are being used to unlawfully justify a suspension of the Bill of Rights and to disarm the public.
If anyone had any doubts about the government’s intent to suspend civil rights during martial law/state of emergency, look no further than Ferguson. The government is using the presence of armed private security, requested by business owners left helpless by the government, as an excuse to ban firearms during these states of emergency. This situation echoes the unconstitutional abuses that occurred at the hands of government forces after Hurricane Katrina. As many media outlets reported (See: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/08/11/who-are-the-oath-keepers-and-why-has-the-armed-group-returned-to-ferguson/) it is clear that the police and government view anyone trying to protect their own lives, families, homes, and businesses via the lawful open carry of weapons as the bad guys. St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar went so far as to say “Their presence was both unnecessary and inflammatory” and that they were working with the “prosecuting attorney’s office” to see if they could bring charges against these brave citizens. In fact, the government’s angle is that during a state of emergency (read martial law) people are not allowed to be armed and therefore must be disarmed. Read more

Why the Time is Right for Independent Political Parties to Rise in the United States

Greek rioters clash with government forces

We have all probably heard the common retort from the brainwashed about how you will waste your vote if you don’t vote for a Democrat or Republican candidate.  However, now more than ever, your future depends on breaking with the elite establishment politics that have destroyed our once free Republic.  Neither a vote for Romney nor a vote for Obama will result in substantive change to our government as both will ultimately lead America to both domestic and international ruin.  Yes, it is safe to say a vote for Gary Johnson or another independent candidate will not result in a victory this round, but it sends a clear message to the establishment that the time for change is here.  Either the establishment gets on board and adopts real policy change or their days of control are numbered.  No matter whether they ignore the independent “majority” voice of Americans or not, they will soon be swept from power.  This much in inevitable.

Why am I so confident?  It is because history has provided us with a very strong lineage of case studies from both contemporary and past perspectives.  To simply break down this progression of the destruction of the old political order and the emergence of the new one, a rather obvious theme is present.  That theme is the rapid decline in the relative quality of life of the people of a nation.   This has often been associated with economic decline, wars, and repeated large-scale natural disasters including disease and famine whether independently or combined.  The result of any or all of these shocks to a society appears to be a complete loss of faith with the established ruling elite and break towards new ideas, solutions, and leadership for better or worse.  Note that I state “for better or worse.”  It is true that some breaks from European monarchy and the Catholic Church may be perceived by many as costly and bloody, but ultimately worthwhile; however, more often than not we have seen this break toward radical ideologies or dictators promising a return of stability.  Since the early 20th century this has ushered in the age of communism and socialism, and most recently, the return of religious extremism.  The deaths of hundreds of millions of people resulted from these new radical governments led by the likes of Stalin, Hitler, and Mao.  Most recently, we have seen a new wave of Islamism spreading across the globe and infecting countries like Libya, Egypt, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq that have led to an increasing number of deaths of innocent civilians as entire regions are being ethnically cleansed of various religious minorities such as Christians, black Africans (Libya), or foreigners.  Europe in particular has witnessed a right-wing, xenophobic resurgence as well as a rise in secessionist movements that threaten to leave Western Europe aflame.

What does this have to do with me, one may ask?  Well, if you are paying attention, you will be acutely aware of the impending financial collapse of the global economic system and the likely default of the United States barring extreme fiscal austerity measures like what are currently being implemented across Europe.  Since that is soon to come to America (think fiscal cliff), you might want to consider how that austerity is working out for Europeans.  In short, it isn’t.  Massive protests from London to Greece have left these countries in a perpetual state of riot as the living conditions and quality of life plummet across Western Europe barring for the most part Scandinavia.  Athens in particular is burning, jobless rates are unprecedented, and there is zero hope of a turnaround anywhere in sight.  As a result, we have seen a dramatic rise in extremist political parties from the left and right in Europe that previously enjoyed little to no support in their respective countries.  If you see a resemblance here to the failure of Weimar Germany and the rise of the National Socialists (Hitler), you may quickly understand why this could be a problem for us at home.

As the living conditions in the US continue to deteriorate and it becomes clear no real recovery on “Main Street” has or will take hold, the reality of the situation will hit Americans both in the pocket books and stomachs.  As this worsens, people will turn to the streets in mass protests and seek new alternatives to our failed political party system, just as in Europe.  The “fringe” and independent parties that maintained their organizational structure through the rough days will soon find out that business is booming and their numbers of supporters rapidly growing.  Parties that previously didn’t even exist will sprout up.  Both the Democrats and Republicans will find their numbers, power, and influence rapidly decreasing.  This tipping point will be the moment when Americans find themselves at a crucial crossroads of ruin or prosperity.  One path leads almost assuredly to totalitarian control, destruction of freedom and liberty, and a lifestyle of slavery.  The other path will lead to a return of America’s greatness, liberties and freedoms, a healthy economy, fiscal discipline, and improving quality of life.

Sadly, the easy path, the path that appeals to the masses, the path that proclaims to provide an ever increasing bounty for free, the path that promises everyone everything is also the path of destruction.  This path has been walked many times by foolish and lazy subjects that believed the government could and would provide them everything and it only led to their death and enslavement at the hands of Marxist and Socialist regimes.  The second path, a path of responsibility that appears rocky and difficult is a path that leads to renewed independence, a turn from greater government control, a return of civil liberties and freedoms, and ultimately peace and prosperity.  Only the few intrepid peoples have trod this path to create great nations and it is yet to be seen whether that fire of “live free or die” still exists in the heart and soul of Americans.

For those of you disillusioned by the political system, now more than ever you need to break ranks.  No longer can you save our nation by adhering to the absurd notion that a vote for the “lesser of two evils” is a legitimate political choice.  You CANNOT, as many Dr. Ron Paul supporters found out in Florida, work from within the system to change it under the current circumstances; albeit there is a time and place for this and it is productive to have people working from the inside.  Remember, the system as we know it is now on a countdown to extinction and thus, working from within is simply a massive counterproductive waste of your limited time.  For those that worked so hard on campaigns and political platforms of change this year, I am sorry your hard and honest efforts were hijacked and used by the system for their ends at your expense.  As should now be obvious, the parties only gave lip service to real policy change in an attempt to placate independent, freedom minded voters just long enough to keep them from jumping ship to the other side while enjoying their financial donations, grassroots support, and overall silence.  Learn from this hard lesson and carry it with you.

For those of you that have long since washed your hands of the Democrats and Republicans, congratulations for your time has finally arrived.  Now more than ever it is critical that like minded, freedom loving people join together to create the solid organizational infrastructure that will rise as a truly better alternative while the old elitist regime crumbles.  Now more than ever the fate of the free world relies on the immediate need for a new political movement that will structurally return and enshrine the rule of law that protects our freedoms and liberties.  People around the country are clamoring for a real alternative.  This “will” occur whether by design or by necessity as the global economy implodes for better or worse.  Whatever  political “alternative” is the best organized as the collapse quickens will be the ultimate victor; again, for better or worse.  Turn your energies and votes from the campaigns of unqualified walking political disasters such as Romney and Obama toward a new alternative political organization that seeks to end the elitist stranglehold on our nation.  I am not the one to tell you what that organization is, but I can tell you that you will find good company here.  I challenge each of you to stop complaining and take action today.  Organize, communicate, and build this organization that will first become the opposition block and then the political mainstream as we run off the corrupt politicians, their lobbyists, and erase the failed elitist order that is now threatening to destroy our way of life.
